Seven Months Today

This tiny piece was written when we realised, suddenly, how much time had flown by since Matthew’s arrival.

It gave John B. Moronigal and outing!

Dr Bill

This is a story of eulogy to a fine man, a man known to many in Bearsden as their GP.

Dr William Matheson was the founder of the Auchenhowie Angling Club.

He was also a legendary Hockey Player, a Goalie, playing on and on and on, for anyone who would give him a game.

To celebrate his 7Oth Birthday he bought a new set of Goalie Whites!

Known to friends as Dr Bill, he was ever cheerful, and full of kindly mischief.

Percy de Vere the 3rd Musketeer

Another Ode.

This one in praise of Lisa and her Catering Team at Douglas Park Golf Club.

It was a very busy night. Lisa did not lose the plot!

In the end, we were all fed and watered, all well pleased.

Ruaridh the Bumblebee

This is another Ode.

We heard a ‘ding-dong’ from the delivery man.

“Would you take this for next door, please?”

Laura, Ruaridh and Anya came for the huge box.

“It’s a Bumblebee outfit, John,” said the glamorous Laura.

“Ruaridh’s class is having a Mini-Beastie Party tomorrow.”

Sprint Finish

This ode heralds the arrival of Ethan, our second grandchild.

True to his sporting heritage, Ethan came at a rush!

This tale is linked to “Flying Start” which tells of his ‘discovery’, at which point he was already co-holder of a Gold Medal!

EnJurance

This was written to say thanks to Ian, the son of our Ghillie, Stewart, who lives on the tiny island of Grimsay, conjoined (almost) to North Uist.

Ian is a commercial diver, working on the island, repairing salmon cages and the like.

We three had a capsize!

This drama has now, as predicted, entered the myth-lore of North Uist,

It is reported in a separate little tale, called “Three Men and a Minnow”, soon to be uploaded.

We rewarded Ian with a bottle of Jura malt Whisky and this ode.

Quando

“Write a short story or poem about your favourite time of year.”

This was an exercise set at a class at “La Scuola Cultura Italiana”  in Bologna.

Three days ago, on the 15th March, the Brown Trout season opened here in Scotland.

Yippeee!

(I have provided a mangled English version courtesy of Google Translate for those who do not care to read mangled Italian.)

Francesca Allegra

This ode was written for Francesca our Italian Tutor at the Centre for Learning in Later life, at Strathclyde University.

Francesca is from Italy, born and bred.

But she could be from Glasgow!

“Allegra” means “Cheerful”.

Her impish smile makes you laugh, without even a word spoken!

She is wonderful! Meravigliosa!

Dermot the Pig (200 words, 5 minutes)

This was written originally for our grandson Matthew, modified to be suitable for both Matthew and Ethan.

It was written in Keswick, in 2011, when we were on holiday, in our caravan.

It seems we must have come across some pigs.

I do really love pigs. They are so smart, so energetic, when they are not sleeping.
