It was my turn to set the Writers’ Circus topic for August 2026.

I chose “Finger of Suspicion”.

This was almost random but there was also a hint of my father singing the Dickie Valentine hit single “The Finger of Suspicion Points at You (1955)”.

Dad used to sing a spoof version with his finger scanning the room and jabbing at me and my three brothers:

Someone came into my house and stole a piece ‘n jam
The Finger of suspicion points at You.

Over the weeks which followed I played around with some notions before settling on this one.

It is semi-autobigraphical.
